Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore started in 2002 as "Amrita Institute of Technology & Science" with a vision to produce quality engineers with service attitude for the benefit of the society and nation. The school was conceived of as the grooming ground for future engineering professionals of India. Initially it had only three branches: Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and Information Technology. It was then affiliated to the Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgum.

1968 - Mr. T.R. Pachamuthu started the Florence Nightingale Primary School, the cornerstone of the SRM group of educational institutions. He also founded the Valliammai Society in honour of his mother Mrs. R. Vels Academy of Maritime Studies (VAMS) and Vels Academy of Maritime Education & Training (VAMET), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Glasgow College of Nautical Studies (GCNS), Scotland, UK, to jointly conduct fully residential Higher National Diploma (HND) Courses in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering respectively.
